Program description:
Day 1: Airport/Delhi
Meet and greeted by the driver with flower garlands at Delhi airport. First leg of the journey takes you straight to your hotel. Check in followed by a short sightseeing tour of Delhi's Old City.
Delhi
The capital of India is home to over 25 million people. It is full of mystery, enchantment, confusion, remains and memories of long-lost empires. Modern Delhi is a chaotic tapestry of medieval forts, mausoleums, dusty bazaars, colonial urban planning and giant shopping malls. Experience the main attractions: Raj Ghat - A simple black marble pedestal marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in an assassination attempt in 1948. Jama Masjid - One of India's largest mosques, it offers a tranquil respite from the surrounding hustle and bustle and can accommodate an astonishing 25,000 people. Take a local rickshaw ride to Old Delhi market, pass by the wonderful spice market, silver market and wedding prop, see the bustling hustle and bustle of the market. Red Fort - by car we visit the Red Fort, converted into a barracks by the British. This huge sandstone fortress is a relic of its former self, but still evokes the grandeur of old Delhi.
Accommodation at Welcomehotel Dwarka or Hyatt Janakpuri.
Day 2: Delhi
After breakfast the sightseeing continues in New Delhi.
Qutub Minar - the world's tallest brick minaret and an important example of Indian Islamic architecture. It was built in 1993 by Quta-ud-din Aibak, just after the last Hindu kingdom of Delhi. It is 72.5 meters high, with a diameter of 14.3 meters at the base and 2.7 meters at the top. Together with the surrounding buildings and sculptures, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lotus Temple. It is in the shape of a lotus flower, made of 27 pristine white marble petals. The temple was created to bring together different religions (closed on Mondays). Humayun's Tomb: Delhi's most perfectly proportioned and impressive mausoleum, Humayun's tomb seems to tower over the surrounding garden. India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan and Parliament Street: drive past Lutyen Delhi's major monuments, symbols of the capital's colonial development (this is a heavily guarded area, subject to and subject to permission). Sikh temple Bangla Sahib: The white marble gurdwara, decorated with golden domes, was built on the site where the eighth Sikh Guru - Harkrishan Dev lived until his death in 1664. The Orissan style Lakshmi Narayan temple was built by the wealthy industrialist BD Birla. Mahatama Gandhi inaugurated the complex as a temple for all castes in 1938; the inscription on the gate reads, "All are welcome". Agrasen ki Baoli: Adjacent to the office buildings to the south-east of Connaught Place, this atmospheric 14th century stepped well is noteworthy. 103 steps lead down to the bottom, which is lined with arched niches.
Accommodation: Welcomehotel Dwarka or Hyatt Janakpuri
Day 3: Delhi/Jaipur
After breakfast, drive to Jaipur (4-5 hours)
Arrival and check in.
Jaipur, the Pink City
Jaipur has the distinction of being India's first planned city. Known worldwide for its colorful gems, the capital of Rajasthan combines the charm of its ancient history with all the advantages of a metropolis. Jaipur's history dates back to 1727, when it was founded by Jai Singh II, Amber Raja. With a rapidly growing population and increasing water scarcity, he shifted his capital from Amber to the new city.
Accommodation: Indana Palace or Radisson City Center
Day 4: Jaipur
After breakfast, visit to the Amer Fort and Jaipur city.
We start the day with Amber Fort. Elephant ride up and jeep ride down to the fort. Amber is about 11 kilometers from Jaipur. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Amber was the bastion of the Kachwahas. The palace is a beautiful blend of Hindu and Mughal styles. The contrast between the austere exterior and the inviting interior could not be more striking. On the way down, you will visit a heritage structure - the Panna-Meena kagund, a square staircase with connecting stairs on all four sides and a hall on the north wall. We continue our journey back towards the city, but stop at Jal Mahal on the way. After the hustle and bustle of Jaipur, the Water Palace is probably a soothing sight. We will make a brief stop at a jewelry and carpet workshop where we will witness artisans making these wonders.
Later in the second half of the day, we will visit Jantar Mantar, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, in Jaipur. It contains sixteen geometric instruments designed to measure time, track celestial bodies and observe the orbits of planets around the Sun. We will also visit the City palace, a beautiful fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture, still home to the last ruling royal family who live in a private part of the palace. The City Palace complex includes the Mubarak Mahal (the reception palace) and the Maharani Palace (the Queen's palace). Before exploring the local markets, stop for a photo opportunity at one of the most famous facades in the world, the Hawa Mahal.
Accommodation: Indana Palace or Radisson City Center
Day 5: Jaipur/Fatehpur Sikri/Agra
After breakfast at the hotel departure to Agra (4-5 hours). On the way we visit Fatehpur Sikri Fort.
Fatehpur Sikri
Between 1572-1585, the boyless Akbar went to Sikri to seek blessings from Sufi saint Salim Chisthti, who blessed him with a son. In gratitude, he built his capital and named it Fatehpur Sikri. Later, due to water shortage and riots in the northwest, Akbar had to leave this city.
Government-run buses will take you from the car park to the fort.
Continue to Agra (50 km, 1-1.5 hours) and check in at the hotel.
Agra has become known as the city of the Taj. Yet it does not take much to see that Agra is about much more than the legendary Taj Mahal. The city is a virtual gateway to a world of discovery, a frame from a bygone, glorious era.
Accommodation: Crystal Sarovar Premiere or Clarks Shiraz
Day 6: Agra
Early morning departure to the Taj Mahal. Then back to the hotel for refreshments and breakfast. Later we visit the marble factory, Itma-ud Daula and Agra Fort. Then rest at the hotel.
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal was built by the mourning Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal not only shines in its beauty, but is also phenomenal in its architecture, in its profound design and construction, and in its ethereal idea of immortalizing love. The delicate carvings in marble and the magnificent pietra dura (inlay technique) compete for attention. Lapis lazuli, cornelian, mother-of-pearl, agate and emerald stones are set in floral and geometric patterns in the marble base. (The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays)
Agra Fort
Akbar built this masterpiece of design and construction in 1565. Within the fort are many beautiful buildings e.g. Moti Masjid, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas
Itmad-ud-daula
The mausoleum on the banks of the Yamuna, built entirely of white marble and set with semi-precious stones, shows strong Persian stylistic features.
Optional program - Mohabbat the Taj show
Enjoy an evening at the "Mohabbat the Taj" show. Watch this popular show: a retelling of the story of the Taj Mahal. Through dance and music, learn how the design of the Taj was inspired by the love between Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz.
Multilingual headphones are provided for the multilingual performance.
