Why the Maldives?
Because it's more beautiful than in the pictures! Snow-white sand, crystal clear water, amazing shades of blue. Located in the Indian Ocean, the country consists of 1,190 islands and sandbars of various sizes. Usually there is a hotel on an island. The smaller islands can be easily walked around, the larger islands have more programs and sports opportunities.
We recommend it to those who want to relax, like to dive near the coral reefs, and are looking for an intimate and quiet vacation. Although hotels often have evening programs and dance shows, don't expect a lively night life.
There are no cultural attractions or hiking opportunities on the islands, so it is worth combining your vacation with a trip to Sri Lanka.
When should we travel?
You can travel to the islands all year round. The highest daytime temperature is constantly around 30 degrees Celsius. As in all tropical countries, there are dry and wet seasons. The dry season lasts from the end of November to April, when the sun shines the most. The wet season lasts from May to the end of October, when it is still warm, but you can expect thunderstorms and storms.
The temperature of the ocean is close to 28-30 C throughout the year.
For travel you need:
Passport: The condition for travel is a passport valid for at least 6 months after arrival. The passport must contain at least two blank pages where the visa can be placed.
Visa: Hungarian citizens entering the Maldives must have a visa for all forms of entry (tourism, business, study, etc.). Visa applications can be submitted on arrival at Malé International Airport. The visa issued locally is valid for a maximum of 30 days, which can be extended during your stay in the Maldives.
Useful information: According to the constitution, the Maldives is a Muslim country, so pay attention to the resulting conditions, especially during Ramadan. The spectacular promotion of any religion other than Islam and the display of its symbols is an act that violates the law.
When dressing outside hotels (which are known locally as "resorts"), pay attention to local customs, women should cover their shoulders, arms, or it is recommended to wear a long skirt (covering the ankles) or trousers. Dressing within the resorts is customary in such places, but nudism or topless clothing is strictly prohibited in the Maldives, including resorts!
It is strictly forbidden to bring into the country explosives, firearms, ammunition, pornography, any material contrary to the teachings of Islam (e.g. the Bible), pork or food made from it, as well as any alcoholic beverages.
Alcoholic drinks are only available in the resorts, but it is forbidden to take them out of the resort.
All forms of drug possession, consumption, and trade are illegal acts that can even result in life imprisonment. Maldivian anti-drug laws are among the strictest in international comparison.
It is forbidden to take turtle shells or corals out of the country.
A more intimate relationship between the same sex, or offering to do so is illegal and may even result in a longer prison sentence.
