1950. Two enterprising innovators invented the so-called “all-inclusive holiday”. Their dream was to provide the perfect holiday for those who wanted to have fun and exercise in an idyllic setting, who loved nature and who were open to the beauty of other countries and the culture of foreign peoples. Thus, the Club Med hotel chain was born.
The 50s - The first Club Med club hotels
Gerard Blitz and Gilbert Trigano, the two founding fathers, opened their first holiday resort in the Balearic Islands town of Alcudia, where they welcomed and accommodated 300 holidaymakers in tents.
The start-up entrepreneurs' second resort was located on a beautiful Tahitian beach and was launched five years later, followed by the first winter resort opened in Leysin in the Swiss Alps.
